Virtual try-on
AR that places a product on the shopper's body rather than in the room, most successfully for eyewear.
Virtual try-on, VTO, is augmented reality for things you wear. The phone camera tracks the face, hands or feet and draws the product on them in the right place, moving as the shopper moves. Glasses and sunglasses are the mature case: the face is easy to track, the product is rigid, and fit is the whole purchase decision.
Watches, jewellery and shoes work with more effort. Clothing is the hard case, because fabric drapes and bodies vary, and most garment try-on is closer to a size recommendation than to a true AR fitting.
For an eyewear retailer, virtual try-on needs a 3D model per frame with accurate lens shape and tint, and a viewer that runs in the browser so that nobody has to install anything.
