SKU explosion
The rapid growth in variants when a product has several independent options, and the reason configurators exist.
A product with five fabrics has five variants. Add three leg finishes and it has fifteen. Add four sizes and it has sixty. Add modules that assemble in different orders and the count runs into thousands. That growth is SKU explosion, and it breaks every process built around one photo per product.
A configurator is the answer on the product page: one model, the rules, and every combination shown on demand. Behind the page the same explosion affects stock, pricing and fulfilment, which is why configurable products are often made to order.
It is the reason a modular sofa needs 3D and a coffee table often does not.
