3D as a service
3D models, viewer, AR and hosting supplied for a monthly fee per product rather than a fee per model.
3D as a service is the subscription model for product 3D. Instead of paying an agency per model and then hosting and maintaining the files, the retailer pays a monthly price per product that covers building the model, the viewer, AR, the hosting and the updates when the product changes.
The argument for it is the same as for any service: the pipeline, the tooling and the people are shared across many retailers, so a mid-size shop gets a production line it could never afford to build, and the cost scales with the catalogue instead of arriving as one large invoice.
The argument against is control: the models and the viewer are the vendor's to run, so the contract has to say what happens to the files if the relationship ends.
