3D asset pipeline
The sequence from product data to a live web model: build, check, optimise, export, host, deliver.
A pipeline is the repeatable process that turns a product into a model on the page. It starts with the inputs, CAD or photos and dimensions; the model is built and its materials captured; it is checked against the real product; it is optimised for the web; it is exported in the formats the platforms need; it is hosted on a content delivery network; and the product page loads it through a viewer.
The word matters because a single model is a project and a catalogue is a pipeline. Retailers with hundreds of products need the process to be the same every time, with the checks built in, so that model number four hundred is as accurate and as fast as model number one.
Updates run through the same pipeline: a new fabric, a changed dimension, a discontinued module.
