Personalisation vs customisation
Choosing among a maker's options is customisation; adding something unique is personalisation. 3D suits one better.
Customisation is picking from options the maker offers: this fabric, that leg, those modules. The result is one of a finite set of products, all of which the factory knows how to make, and a 3D configurator shows every one of them.
Personalisation adds something that did not exist before: an engraved name, an uploaded photo, a free-form colour. The set is infinite, and 3D can preview some of it, an engraving on a watch back, but not all of it, because the rules cannot be written in advance.
The distinction matters when planning a project, because vendors quote for one and buyers often mean the other.
