3D model from CAD
Turning an engineering file into a web model: exact geometry, then simplification and materials.
If a product is manufactured from a CAD file, that file already holds the exact geometry, which is the best possible starting point. The web model is derived from it: the geometry is simplified for the browser, the internal parts nobody sees are removed, and real materials replace the CAD's flat colours.
The advantage is accuracy. Dimensions are exact by construction, which matters for AR and for configurators. The work is in the conversion, since CAD formats describe surfaces mathematically and the web needs triangles, and in the materials, which CAD rarely has.
Most furniture retailers do not have CAD for what they sell, because the supplier does; then the model is built from photographs and the published dimensions instead.
