360 product spin
A ring of photographs stitched so the product appears to rotate; it looks like 3D but contains no geometry.
A 360 spin is made by photographing the product from 24, 36 or 72 angles on a turntable and playing the frames as the shopper drags. It gives the impression of a 3D view at the cost of a photo session per product per colourway.
It has no geometry, so it cannot do anything a 3D model does beyond turning: no AR, no configurator, no real-size measurement, no zoom into a seam that was not photographed. It also has to be shot again for every variant.
A spin is the right choice for products that are cheap, unchanging and photographed anyway. For anything configurable, bulky or bought on fit, a real 3D model does more from one asset.
